SYMPOSIUM SUMMARY: Chicago, Illinois

2009 Chicago Symposium

Attendees travelled from both North America and Europe for this year’s successful symposium based around Chicago. Our first full day was based at The Chicago Botanic Garden and after a group photo on the steps to the garden and a brief tram tour to help us get our bearings, the group spread out in different directions through the gardens. The ability for water gardeners to seek out waterplants was confirmed by the numbers that soon converged on the deck boardwalk that skirted the edge of the lake.

Various lilies and lotus could be viewed at close quarters alongside a number of tastefully
planted container water gardens on the deck itself. Other highlights of the garden included a
formal pool with tropical lilies, Japanese and English style gardens, and a series of waterfalls.
