2005 IWGS New Waterlily Competition
In order to promote interest in hybridizing new colors, forms, and sizes of both tropical and hardy waterlilies (Nymphaea), an annual competition is held by the IWGS where hybridizers can display their new creations. In just the past few years this competition has resulted in the introduction of several noteworthy new hybrids: plants with unusual flower shapes and colors; new leaf patterns and colors; and new viviparous lilies.
Any hybridizer or introducer could enter a waterlily for the 2005 competition, but to be eligible the waterlily must not have been commercially available before 2002. The competition was open to any relevant entries and not exclusively to IWGS members. This year entries were received from hybridizers in Thailand, Israel, Cyprus, and the USA.
