During a presentation at the 2022 IWGS Symposium in Florida, Laura Bancroft revealed the collected wisdom on growing lotus (Nelumbo), gathered from over thirty growers around the world.

Growing Lotus Tubers

Lotus are an aquatic perennial, whose growth is controlled by temperature and sunlight. The temperature and day-length both determine when a lotus tuber will break from winter dormancy. Growing from tubers is vegetative reproduction, and gives exact genetic clones of the parent plant. Most rhizomes are sold with at least 2½ sections of tubers (2 internodes).
