The International Waterlily and Water Gardening Society (IWGS) announces its 27th Annual Symposium to be held in Qingdao, China, beginning with a welcome banquet Friday evening by the Qingdao municipal government. The symposium will be conducted July 22-25 with an optional post tour of Beijing available July 26-29, 2011.
Saturday, July 22nd includes travel to Chinese Waterlily World for the opening ceremony and tour of the first International Waterlily and Lotus Exhibition, complete with a lunch featuring edible aquatic plants. Attendees will then tour the Qingdao Flower Market and the Qingdao Jinlinxun Koi Aquarium. In the evening, attendees can purchase waterlilies, books, artwork, and more provided by the IWGS and Chinese Waterlily World.
An educational conference is slated for Sunday, featuring 12 speakers from countries around the world including China, Australia, Russia, and India. All seminars are presented in English and cover a variety of aquatic plant topics. On Monday, local sight-seeing rounds out the day with the annual IWGS banquet closing the symposium.
An optional post tour of Beijing is available Tuesday through Thursday. Highlights include the Great Wall of China, Beijing Botanical Gardens, Yiheyuan (Summer Palace), Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square, and more.
Registration for this year’s symposium and post tour is currently open. The event’s host hotel is Qingdao Guangye Jinjiang Hotel in the center of the Licang District. Registration includes all seminars, meals, transportation, and admissions. To simplify the registration process, the IWGS will coordinate hotel reservations, which are $80 per night with no additional taxes or fees. A separate fee is charged for the symposium post tour of Beijing.
